KARORI sanctuary Zealandia opened its doors to the Wellington public on Sunday as part of Wellington Open Day 2013.
For only a gold coin donation, visitors were able to experience native wildlife while supporting the conservation efforts of the sanctuary.
The day was a huge success, with hundreds flocking through the doors, and even causing traffic jams throughout Karori.
Sanctuary visitors take a picnic break behind the electric boat attraction.
Guides were situated throughout the sanctuary to help people recognise the native birds and animals.
